| THE HELPING HAND ALONG THE WAY HELPS REUNITE A CHILD AND HIS FRIEND In early January, Travelers Aid Dallas/Fort Worth recovered a lost teddy bear. Although we recover hundreds of items each year, it is particularly sad to recover an unidentified toy or stuffed animal that clearly is loved by a child. Fortunately in this case, the owner called, and little did we know just how important this bear was. "Teddy" was lost by her young son when they came to Dallas. Her son is autistic and the bear was his close companion. Many children travel with stuffed animals as their traveling companion. In this case, Teddy was more than just a traveling companion - he was the child's source of security, normalcy and friendship. Not finding the bear could have caused some challenges for the young child. We were able to return the bear to the family, and now the child and his constant companion are reunited as shown in the picture to the right. Travelers Aid is known as the helping hand along the way, and it was our pleasure to help Teddy return to his owner. |
